For hot yoga, the best grip socks are breathable ankle-length pairs with full-sole silicone tread — sweat is what makes regular socks (and bare feet) slip on a heated studio floor, and moisture-wicking grip socks solve exactly that. KARVE short performance grip socks (£12) use a ventilated combed-cotton knit built for sweaty classes, from the studio brand whose socks handle reformer jumps daily.
Why your feet slip in hot yoga
Heated rooms mean sweat, and sweat on a smooth floor or mat removes friction precisely when you're holding warrior three. Bare feet start grippy and get worse as class heats up; cotton socks are slippery from minute one. Silicone tread keeps its friction wet or dry — that's the whole trick.
What to look for in a hot yoga grip sock
Breathability first
Thick socks trap heat and soak through. A light, ventilated knit keeps feet cooler and drier, which keeps the inside of the sock from becoming its own slip surface.
Ankle length
Crew socks add warmth you don't want at 35°C. Low-cut pairs vent better and feel closer to barefoot, which matters for balance poses.
Full-sole tread
Dot grips leave bare zones under the ball of the foot — the exact contact point in relevé and lunges. Edge-to-edge silicone keeps every stance planted.
Secure fit
A sock that rotates when damp is worse than none. Heel pocket and snug cuff are non-negotiable for sweaty sessions.
Do studios allow socks in hot yoga?
Almost all do, and many encourage grip socks for hygiene on shared mats and floors. If you rent a studio mat, socks are the sanitary option as well as the stable one.
One pair, every class
The same ankle grip socks work across hot yoga, reformer Pilates, mat classes and barre — KARVE's short performance grip socks are worn for all four across our studios. Wash cold, air dry, rotate two pairs if you practise more than twice a week; our care guide covers the full routine.
